Bump, set, and spike it; that's what the Dodge Lady Pirates do the best. That’s why they were excited to head off to the state volleyball tournament on Friday, November 9th. The Lady Pirates had not been to the state volleyball tournament in 11 years, so it was a huge accomplishment for this volleyball team. The Lady Pirates were escorted out of town by the sirens of the Dodge Rescue Unit and also by many supporters cheering them on.
The Dodge Lady Pirates were rated the eighth seed in the tournament, so they had to face the number one seed, the Ewing Tigers. Lady Pirates were all pumped up and ready for the Ewing Tigers, but the Lady Pirates enthusiasm was over ran by their nerves in the first set. The score of the first set was 8-25. Then in the second set, the Lady Pirates were kicking it into action and battled back from a slow first set ending the set in a 20-25 loss. “The third time is the charm,” is what the Lady Pirates were thinking to win the third set against Ewing. In the third set Dodge saw some really tough jump serves and a lot of smashing kills from the Ewing side of the net, which led to the eventual defeat of the Lady Pirates.
The stat leaders for the Dodge Lady Pirates were: Emily Pieper with seven serves and three aces, Brittnie Kreikemeier with thirteen kills, Nicole Kreikemeier with fifteen digs, and Paige Sellhorst with four blocks.
The Lady Pirates were disappointed at the loss, but can still be very proud of what they accomplished this season. The Lady Pirates had a great season with a 17-11 record and ended their season ranked 10th in the state.
