GREAT PLAINS AWARDS DPS WITH $1,000 GRANT FOR STAR READING
By Scott Lamberty
May 07, 2008
Dodge Public School was recently a recipient of a $1,000 grant from Great Plains Communications. This grant was for the implementation of Star Reading, which will complement the Accelerated Reader that we have already been using.
It is our intent that with Star Reading we will be able to differentiate instruction by determining the current, appropriate reading level for each child at any grade level, thereby, being able to place students at their appropriate reading level. Once we know the appropriate level, we will be able to choose books that will better challenge the reader to improve reading skill. We will also be able to better modify classroom instruction to help students improve their reading skill.
Star Reading will also allow us to identify those students who need individual help and then personalize the reading practice. That helps to ensure that “ALL students are improving their reading skill across the curriculum.”
We will be implementing this program during the 2008-2009 school year in the elementary, and we look forward to the success it will bring to our students.
