STUDENTS COMPETE AT MATH COUNTS
February 23, 2009
Math counts is a program to excite and challenge middle school students. There are four levels of competition school, chapter, state and national; the National Society of Professional Engineers sponsors these competitions. In mid January several students took the in school test and the top students were chosen. During the next couple of weeks those seven students plus one student from the 6th grade spent two to three times a week after school working on various types of math problems. They learned a few new math concepts and some easier ways to work pattern problems. The students had fun learning and working together. On February 14, the group of 8 students went to Central Community College to compete in the Northeast Nebraska Chapter Competition. There were 120 students attending. The students did a great job, the students attending from Dodge as a team were Deven Ortmeier, Danny Widhelm, Casey Wisnieski, and Jeremy Wisnieski. Alternates and also taking the test were Alexis Marsh, MaLeaha Semerad, Marissa Semerad, and Lindsey Wisnieski. Dayle Trout-Wisnieski coached the students. I am very proud of all the students and their hard work.
