Help Your Child Prepare for the Upcoming Nebraska State Tests
It is that time of year again when the state requires the annual testing to begin for students in grades 3-11 in some cases and grades 4, 8 and 11 in others. The state has designated certain time frames in which the tests can be taken.
We will begin the first tests in the area of writing with grades 4, 8 and 11 taking this test. The process for grades 8 and 11 has changed since last year. Students in those grades will take a computer generated test which will be done in one 90-minute session. The students in grade 4 will get two 45 minute sessions on consecutive days. The date for grade 8 testing will be January 25th and grade 11 will take the test on January 26th. Grade 4 will take the test on January 31st and February 1st. We ask that you please don't schedule appointments on those days and that every effort is made to have students in attendance on those days.
Beginning the last week of March and continuing through the end of April, all students in Nebraska, in grades 3-8 & 11, will be required to take the Nebraska State Reading test as well as the NeSA Math test. This test will be computer-based and will consist of two 60-minute sessions during this testing window. Testing dates have not been set for these tests at this time. Within the next few weeks those dates will be chosen and again we ask that you make every effort to have your child/ren in attendance for these tests. We have a short window for each of them and it makes it difficult to reschedule the tests.
New to the testing this year is the NeSA Science testing. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 will be tested in that area.
We are busy preparing students for this test and helping them to become familiar with the testing format. You can help!
Having your student become more familiar with the testing process can only help them when it comes time for the actual test.
In the past, each school has utilized their own testing to measure student progress on the state standards. Taking a computerized state test that is the same for all students across the state is new territory for all of us. For more information on the differences between past methods and those used this year, you may download a brochure with additional information by clicking the link below.
Thank you for your support and if you have any questions about the state testing or how to download the tutorial or sample questions for use at home, please contact Patty Novicki at 693-2207.
