Scholarship Information for 2011-2012

- Access College Early Scholarship Program - This scholarship will pay the tuition and mandatory fee costs of a high school student who wishes to take dual enrollment or early admit class at a Nebraska college or university.  To qualify, a high school student, or that student's parent (s)/guardian(s), would have had to experience an extreme hardship (i.e. fire, loss of job, accident, etc.), or currently be eligible for one of the following federal benefit programs: food stamps, free or reduced price lunches, supplemental security income, special supplemental nutrition program or temporary assistance for needy families.  Students need to complete an application and provide documentation that they do meet at least one of the eligibility criteria, that they are enrolled in the college course, and the tuition and mandatory fees the college or university is charging the student for that course.

- Wendy's Heisman Award - Honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership.  Must be entering senior year of high school and have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school sponsored sport.  Application deadline is Sunday, October 2, 2011.  Applications are available online at www.wendysheisman.com

- Coca-Cola Scholars - Applicants must demonstrate leadership, commitment to community, academic achievement and have a GPA of 3.0.  Applications are available online at www.coca-colascholars,org, Deadline for applying is Monday, October 31, 2011.

- Prudential Spirit of Commuity Award - Applicants must show the spirit of volunteerism through volunteer work.  Applications are available online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit  Applications must be submitted to the school principal by Tuesday, November 1, 2011.

- Wayne State's RHOP - Wayne State's RHOP deadline is set for Wednesday, December 1, 2011.  This program has been expanded to include Nursing.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at http://www.wsc.edu/schools/nss/rhop

- Willa Cather Foundation's Norma Ross Walter Scholarship - This scholarship is open to female high school students who are planning to major in English.  Applications are available in the guidance office or online at www.WillaCather.org  Deadline for applying is Friday, January 27, 2012.

- Davis-Chambers Scholarship - Applicants must demonstrate academic preparedness by their ACT scores, GPA and class rank, through demographic diversity including geography diversity, first generation status, low income, single family household and life experiences or involvement in diverse organizations or communities.  Deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  Applications for UN-K are available at www.unk.edu/offices/financial_aid

- UN-K's Health Science Scholars - Applicants must be promising students interested in health science careers.  Application deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  Must have an ACT composite of 22 or higher, be ranked in the upper half of graduating class and have at least a 3.0 GPA.  The application is available at http://www.unk.edu/healthsciencescholarships/

- UN-K's Multicultural Community Service - Applicants will be selected primarily on a demonstrated commitment to diversity/multiculturalism by leadership and participation in school and community activities.  Must have an ACT composite score of 20 or higher.  Applications are available online at www.unk.edu/offices/financial_aid Deadline for applying is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

- UN-K's Peter Kiewit Foundation Educators Opportunity - Applicants will pursuing classroom teaching credentials at UN-K.  Recipients must demonstrate fluency in both writing and speaking Spanish, demonstrate financial need by completing FAFSA and declare a major in teacher education.  Applications are due Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  Application information can be found at www.unk.edu/offices/financial_aid

- Susan T. Buffett Scholarship - Applicants must be a Nebraska resident, have a GPA of 2.5, and furnish a completed FAFSA.  Application information can be found at www.buffettscholarships.org  Deadline for applying is Tuesday, March 1. 2012.

- Collegebound Nebraska - University of Nebraska's tuition assistance program for families whose earnings are just beyond Federal Pell Grant eligibility.  No set income level to qualify, but a general guideline is that a typical family of four with one student in college and an annual family income of $50,000.00 or less may qualify for Collegebound Nebraska assistance.  Funds are available on a "first come, first served" basis.  Deadline for applying is Friday, April 1, 2012 FAFSA deadline - June 1, 2012 for all other documents.  More information at collegeboundnebraska.com.

- Southeast Community College Scholarship online applications.  Go to - http://www.southeast.edu/admission/costs or http://financialaid/scholarships.aspx  and follow instructions for apply online for financial aid.  Deadlines vary depending on when a student is going to enroll.  For new SCC students planning to enroll for "Summer Quarter" (July-September) the deadline is May 1-22, 2012 - "Fall Quarter"  (October - December) the deadline is August 1 - 22, 2012.
